Our Planning and Building Services Staff

The Municipality of the County of Antigonish is a member of the Eastern District Planning Commission (EDPC). The Commission’s team of qualified professionals, including Building and Fire Inspectors, Development Officers and Planners, is available to support you through your building and development process.

Building Services

Contact our Building staff before you start construction to discuss your project. They will advise you on the necessary permits and inspections required, as well as timelines. They will also advise you when your must obtain permits from other provincial bodies. An early conversation with Building staff can save you a lot of time and resources during the building process.

Sean Donovan is a Building and Fire Inspector for Antigonish County, and splits his time between the Municipal Office (902-863-1117) and the EDPC offices in Port Hawkesbury (1-888-625-5361).

Planning Services

Contact Planning Services staff with any development plans and questions as early as possible to help navigate the development process. They can answer questions about land use planning, zoning and development permit requirements. Where a Land- Use Bylaw is in effect, a Development Permit is required before a Building Permit can be issued.

John Bain, MCIP LPP AICP, is the Director of the Eastern District Planning Commission (EDPC) and serves as the Director of Planning for the County of Antigonish. John can be contacted at the EDPC at 1-888-625-5361.
