Solid Waste Management > Battery Disposal

Have you ever wondered where to put your old non-rechargeable batteries? Or better yet, what impact these batteries are having on landfills? Because of the negative impact batteries have on landfills the province has banned them from entering landfills and deemed that they must be disposed of at household hazardous waste facilities. The Municipality of the County of Antigonish is please to announce that as of November 1st, 2005 we will be accepting non-rechargeable household batteries at the municipal office (box inside front entrance).

This service will allow county residents to return alkaline/lithium batteries (D, C, AA, AAA, 9-volt, 12-volt, etc.) as well as button type batteries (watch, hearing aid batteries, etc.) at no charge. All types of household batteries can also be returned to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) depot at the Beech Hill Solid Waste-Resource Management Facility.
