Assessment Notices for 2017 have been mailed to property owners by the Property Valuation Services Corporation (PVSC).
Understanding your Property Assessment Notice
The front page of your notice shows your property’s assessed value, capped assessment (if eligible for the Capped Assessment Program) and taxable assessed value (used to calculate your property taxes).
The back of the assessment notice includes five years of assessment values for your property.
In Nova Scotia, property assessments are based on market value sales one year prior to the current year.
When you receive your assessment notice please make sure to do the following:
- Review the information to ensure you understand your current property assessment.
- If you do not feel that your assessment is a reasonable estimate of market value two years prior to the date of your notice, you can appeal your assessment. A detachable appeal form is on the front of your notice. An appeal must be filed by Monday, February 13, 2017.
- Please contact PVSC (1-800-380-7775) if you have any questions about your assessment or if you’re considering filing an appeal.
A guide to your assessment notice can be found on the PVSC website.
Please note this is not a tax bill, nor is it issued by the Municipality. All questions or concerns must be directed to PVSC.
