Antigonish County Recreation is a member of the Highland Region Recreation Coordinators (HRRC) which consists of the Municipal Recreation Departments in Antigonish, Pictou, and Guysborough County. Gerard MacIsaac, Regional Representative of the Nova Scotia Office of Health Promotion - Sport and Recreation Division is also a member of the HRRC.

The HRRC has been working collectively to achieve results in community Sport and Recreation for more than 25 years. The purpose of the group is to assist individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life in the Highland Region Communities.

The HRRC recently identified three main objectives:

  • Increase activity levels of participation in Sport and Recreation
  • Increase the quality and quantity of sport and recreation leaders
  • Increase the public knowledge of the benefits and value of sport and recreation

One of the newest initiatives of the HRRC is the establishment of the Active Kids - Healthy Kids Leadership Development Fund with the support of the N.S. Office of Health Promotion - Sport and Recreation Division. Click on one of the links below to view the information brochure on the fund or to obtain a copy of the application form. This leadership development program is one of many initiatives that have been established to increase the physical activity levels of children and youth in Nova Scotia. While this fund is directed to leadership development, financial support can be considered for creation of new programs as long as there is a leadership development component. Examples of eligible projects are outlined in the enclosed brochure.

For further information, see the Highland Region Active Kids - Healthy Kids Leadership Development Fund Brochure.
